2010 DATES:

I will be tutoring residential painting courses at the following locations;

        Flatford Mill Field Study Centre,

East Bergholt, Suffolk, (located in the heart of the picturesque Constable country)
  • Capturing Light in Watercolour:
A 3 day residential course from Friday 6th until Monday 9th August 2010

           Description:
The course is for anyone who may already have some experience in painting in watercolour but is looking for further practical help in improving technique to create paintings that portray a sense of light. Beginning with a review of basic working methods, sessions will include the creation of light and shade in tone, the potential of simplified two and three colour limited palettes and painting with an extended palette. Students will be encouraged to move at their own pace with sessions being held both indoors and outdoors, (weather permitting) to enable participants to work as much as possible from direct observation.

  • An Impressionistic Approach to Watercolour Painting:
A 4 day residential course from Monday 9th until Friday 13th August 2010

Description:
This course is for anyone who has learned the basics of watercolour and who already has some experience in painting but is now looking for further  help in painting in a more expressive, less laboured way. As such this course would not be suitable for absolute beginners. Participants will be given practical guidance through the use of demonstrations, structured exercises and individual tuition, in ways of combining tone, colour and effective brush techniques to produce paintings with energy and vitality. Beginning with a review of basic working methods, sessions will be designed to explore light and shade, limited and extended colour palettes. Participants will be encouraged to move at their own pace with sessions being held primarily outside, both around the Flatford Mill Centre itself and at other locations in the surrounding areas, to enable participants to work as much as possible from direct observation. Sessions will be held inside when the weather is prohibitive.

Courses can be booked separately or students can enroll for the whole week and take both courses.
For a brochure and more information please telephone the Centre on 01206 297110, or go to www.field-studies-council.org/flatfordmill
